Lia Athanassiou

Lia Athanassiou is an Attorney –at-Law, member of the Piraeus Bar and Assistant Professor of Commercial Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Athens. She is a graduate of the Athens Faculty of Law and she holds two LLM degrees, one in Business Law from the University of Aix-Marseille III and one in General Private Law from the University of Paris II- Panthéon-Assas respectively. She also holds a Phd degree in Commercial and EC Law from the University of Paris I-Panthéon-Sorbonneand an Academic Authorization from the same University to supervise (post)graduate research.In addition, she is admitted as a Visiting Scholar in Harvard Law School for the year 2007-2008. She has published 4 books and 45 articles and contributions in greek and foreign legal journals and has addressed numerous conferences worldwide as a rapporteur. She has also participated as a researcher in various research programs of Athens’ Academy and foreign research Foundations (Rotterdam, Bologna, Maastricht). She is a full Member of the Hellenic Competition Commission and of legislative committees in issues regarding competition law, law on trademarks, consumer law and maritime law. She has been appointed external legal consultant in the European Commission in matters concerning competition law and the liberalization in the sector of the maritime transports,  as well as legal consultant of the Minister of Transport and Communications. She has been counseling companies, banks and independent authorities in Greece and in Cyprus. She is also a member of the editing committee of legal journals, such as the “Business and Corporate Law” and the “Business Law Review” (“Epitheorissis Emporikou Dikaiou”). She practices Business and EC law before the Supreme Court and the European Courts of Justice (competition law, transport law, energy law, industrial property and corporate law).
